KLEIN FELDER
Water level information was also obtained from the Schmidt groundwater reports in addition to
numerous Kleinfelder documents. Generally, during the period of the monitoring (1992 to date)
the groundwater elevation beneath the project site ranged from 17 to 28 feet above mean sea
level. The direction of groundwater flow was predominantly to the west-northwest. Historical
groundwater information obtained by Mr. Schmidt indicates that in 1950 depth to groundwater
beneath the factory was 10 feet with a direction of groundwater flow to the west. Depth to
groundwater in the vicinity of the site has historically ranged from 10 to 26 feet below grade,
with groundwater flow directions varying from due west to northwest.
Review of the 1985 and 1993 Ken Schmidt reports indicates that five water supply wells
(designated 2A, 4, 5, 6A and 7), one livestock well and one domestic well are located on site.
The 1985 Ken Schmidt report also describes the chemical composition of water from the water
supply wells on site. The groundwater was classified as a calcium -magnesium -bicarbonate type
water. Mr. Schmidt indicated that the water contained concentrations of iron above the
California Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL). The water was characterized as having high
hardness. Barium was detected in the wells at concentrations below the MCL. Nitrate
concentrations in three of the wells sampled were above the MCL. Concentrations of arsenic
above the MCL and elevated concentrations of manganese have been detected in the monitoring
wells on site.
The majority of the native sediments near the site consist of Miocene to Holocene continental
rocks and deposits of a heterogeneous mixture of generally poorly sorted clay, silt, sand and
gravel. Some beds of elaystone. siltstone, sandstone, and conglomerate are also present.
The general direction of ground eater Ilow in the area of the site, based on a report issued by the
San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, Spring 1995, is to the
northwest. The elevation of first groundwater is approximately 20 feet below mean sea level.
According to the same report, the depth to groundwater in the vicinity of the project site is
approximately 20 feet below grade.
20-3978-03.W36/2019766 Page 5 of 20
© 1999.
