kn KLEINFELDER
C
1 4.1.3 Sample Handlin;
After collection, the soil and groundwater samples were labeled, logged on a chain -of -custody,
and immediately stored in an iced cooler. The samples were transported under chain -of -custody
control to Kleinfelder's office and then transported by courier in a sealed container to Sequoia
Analytical of Sacramento, California (Sequoia) for chemical analysis. Sequoia is certified by the
California Department of Health Services to perform the requested analyses. The soil and
groundwater samples were submitted to Sequoia to perform the proposed analyses on a regular
turnaround schedule, usually requiring ten to fourteen working days for completion.
4.2 RECYCLING OF DEBRIS
The debris excavated from Site 13 was segregated from the soil/lime material. The debris from
Site C was also segregated from the soil, but was additionally sifted so the excavated soil could
be reused to fill the excavation. The soil and slaked lime excavated from Site B was moved to
the lime ponds [all the lime in the lime ponds will be handled in accordance with the Waste
Discharge Requirements (WDRs) for the lime ponds].
The debris excavated from these two disposal areas at the site were stockpiled with existing
waste construction materials for future recycling. The concrete is to be transported to a
temporary onsite crushing plant that will be processing concrete rubble (primarily from the
demolished buildings and stora(,e silos) into aggregate that will be used in road construction.
Metal will be pulled from the cxcavated debris for later transport to a metals recycling facility.
4.3 MONITORING WELL ABANDONMENT
4.3.1 Permitting and Pre -Field Activities
tKleinfelder submitted a well destruction application for six monitoring wells MW -7 through
MW -12 to PHS/EHD on July 8. 1999 for their review. The well destruction application/permit
was also obtained on July 8. 1999. For a copy of the well destruction permit please refer to
' Appendix C.
4.3.1 MonitorinL Well Abandonment
Monitoring wells MW -7 through MW -9 were previously installed around the perimeter of Site B
and Monitoring wells MW -10 through MW -12 were installed around the perimeter of Site C. The
wells were initially installed to monitor groundwater conditions in the vicinity of the two disposal
20-3978-03.W36/2019766 Paac I I oi' 20
© 1999. Kleinfeldcr.
