Charter Way. The following points are our specific responses:
1) Regarding analysis for TPH-D and PAH's. The WP already calls for analysis of semi-volatiles by
method 8270. This suite of analytes includes PA 's. As for diesel, I am attaching a slightly modified
work plan that includes TEPH by 8015m.
2) Based on limited available information from CalRecycle, it is believed that the original landfill
excavation extended to the groundwater surface but would be very unlikely to go deeper. Insofar as the
primary purpose of the work is to define the lateral and vertical limits of the landfill, I believe the goal
of reaching the groundwater surface will generally correspond with the base of the fill material. If not,
the borings can easily be extended a few feet. Again, given the goal of the project I am not planning to
collect GW samples, but have added a short paragraph in the revised WP that allows for the possibility if
field conditions suggest it may be advisable.
3) Regarding grouting the borings, neat cement is to be used, but CalRecycle seemed concerned that
the cement grout might not be appropriate to restore the integrity of the landfill cover. For that reason
the upper 2 to 3 feet of each boring will be filled with bentonite chips and then hydrated. This should
provide a pliable yet durable bond with the partially compacted cover material. CalRecycle accepted
this approach.
4) Service Request form. See attached
5) The Reporting Section of the WP already indicates that EHD is to get a copy of the report.
Steve Lankford
Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
2937 Veneman Ave., B-240
Modesto CA 95356
209-569-0293
7/17/2013
