F
INFORMATION SHEET
CITY OF STOCKTON
AUSTIN ROAD LANDFILL
CLASS III LANDFILLS
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY -2-
Because of the detection of volatile organics in the ground water down gradient of the
landfill , a verification monitoring program was implemented at the facility. The
purpose of the program is to determine the horizontal and vertical extent of the
contamination. Phase I of the plan included a camera scan and geophysical log of the
on-site water supply well , a continuously sampled soil boring, and a cone penetrometer
test (CPT)/hydropunch test. This phase of the program has been completed. The results
of the CPT/hydropunch test showed that the initial plan to drive several hydropunch
holes is not feasible. This was due to a very hard layer of clay that the hydropunch
could not penetrate. Therefore, the Discharger now plans to auger down through the hard
clay layer and then drive the hydropunch through the auger flights into the two water
zones to sample. These WDRs include a time schedule for the completion of the
verification monitoring program.
12/27/89:JKT:gs
r
