El Dorado Street <br />Stockton, CA 95202-1997 <br />CITY OF STOCKTON AUSTIN ROAD LANDFILL, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY <br />(Case No. 2148) <br />Your letter of 29 August 1994 asks us for information regarding the Northern California Youth <br />Center irrigation well and the sample collected there by the State Office of Real Estate Design <br />Services. We do not have the information you request. We suggest you contact the State Office of <br />Real Estate Design Services. <br />Attachments to your letter indicate that water level in the irrigation well could not be obtained because <br />of the presence of oil in the well casing. This is a typical problem in agricultural wells. Normally, a <br />special oil -water sounder is used in this situation. In this manner, both the oil and water levels may <br />be determined. We suggest you contact a dealer who sells sounders and inquire about the appropriate <br />device for this well. <br />A question is raised in the attachments to your letter as to whether oil found in the well could <br />contaminate ground water. We have no evidence that lubricating compounds used in water wells <br />have any similarity to the volatile organic compounds coming from the Austin Road Landfill. <br />If you have any questions, please call Steve Rosenbaum at (916) 255-3131. <br />WILLIAM.
