El Dorado Street
Stockton, CA 95202-1997
!,J
QUALITY CONTROL BOARD
CITY OF STOCKTON AUSTIN ROAD LANDFILL, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
(Case No. 2148)
Governor
We recently received analytical data from the State's Office of Real Estate and Design Services on a
ground water sample from an agricultural supply well owned by the Northern California Youth
Center. The supply well is about 3000 feet north of the landfill near the intersection of the NCYC's
eastern access road and Austin Road. This well is about 1000 feet north and downgradient of the
landfill's ground water monitoring wells. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) typical of the
landfill's contaminant plume were found in the water sample. The VOCs include tetrachloroethylene
and trichloroethylene at concentrations of 6 µg/l and 1.3 µg/1, respectively.
We request that the City of Stockton immediately sample the agricultural supply well and the two
supply wells at the houses east of Austin Road. The samples should be analyzed for VOCs in
compliance with the landfill's waste discharge requirements (WDRs). The results should be
submitted to us with a report documenting the field and laboratory work including interpretation of
the results. Please submit the report by 30 September 1994. Please advise us prior to field work
so that we may observe the activities and collect samples for independent analysis.
If you have any questions, please call Steve Rosenbaum at (916) 255-3131
1MARSHALL,-
Chapter 15 Unit
SER
cc: See attached list
