Mr. G. Arnold Inouye
August 3, 1995
Page 2
In the June 27, 1995 letter we said that we were going ahead with the MW -14
installation .and sampling in our continuing effort to track movement of the plume.
Present Situation
We installed MW -14 and sampled it on July 11, 1995. Only a "trace" amount of
Acetone was found in the MW -14 sample (see attached EPA Method 8260 test results).
Acetone is not one of the VOC-constituents present in the landfill plume. This means
that the landfill plume has not reached MW -14. As the attached State parcel map
indicates MW -14 is located in the south east comer of State Surplus Parcel No. SSL
357-3. The plume has not reached the City's other monitoring well on State Surplus
Parcel No. SSL 357-3, MW -12, either since monitoring results show no evidence of
VOC-constituents in this well. MW -12 is located in the south west comer of State
Surplus Parcel No. SSL 357-3.
With two "clean" wells at both ends of the southern boundary of State Surplus Parcel
No. SSL 357-3 we believe that the landfill plume has not impacted the State
agricultural well and State Surplus Parcel No. SSL 357-3.
We will continue to monitor MW -12, lW- 13, and MW -14 as part of our quarterly
monitoring program and keep you updated on any further developments.
SC/MM
cc: Dwane Milnes, City Manager
Gary Ingraham, Assistant City Manager
James B.
