f
CITY OF ■ •
Aa#
DEPARTMENT OF MUNICIPAL UTILITIES
2500 NAVY DRIVE
STOCKTON, CA 95206-1191
(209) 937-6750
FAX (209) 937-e70e
January 26, 1995
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
ATTN: Steven Mindt
445 N. San Joaquin Street
Stockton, CA 95202
Facility Number: 39 -AA -001
Facility Name: Austin Road Landfill
BIOSOLIDS STOCKPILED AT THE AUSTIN ROAD LANDFILL SITE
This is in regard to the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department report dated
January 11, 1995 which was provided to the Public Works Department of the City of Stockton.
Since the biosolids are the responsibility of the Municipal Utilities Department, Public Works
has requested that we address the concerns expressed in this report.
We understand and share your frustration with the length of time this stockpile of biosolids has
been in place at the landfill. As you know, the City's original intent in moving the biosolids to
Austin Road was to use this material as foundation for the final cover. Unfortunately,
subsequent regulators have prohibited us from using the material in this way.
I would like to assure you, however, that we are diligently working towards the removal of that
stockpile at the earliest possible date for beneficial reuse. The following information is offered
to assure you we are attempting to resolve this issue as expeditiously as possible.
The City has decided to select a consulting engineering firm to assist us in the proper disposition
of this stockpile. The selection process will take approximately two months. After that,
required laboratory analysis of the stockpile will take additional time, and then the consultant
will review the laboratory results to determine the best approach to use in removing these
biosolids from the landfill. Our schedule calls for these biosolids to be removed by the fall of
1995.
"STOCKTON... CALIFORNIA'S SUNRISE SEAPORT"
S
