VECTORS
Flies, mosquitos, and other insects (such as wasps) will not
readily pass through 1211 of greenwaste, thus they cannot
emerge from or enter into the garbage that has been covered.
If the cover is applied properly no refuse will be left
uncovered to attract animals or birds.
MOISTURE INFILTRATION
The greenwaste alternative cover should control water movement
to minimize moisture infiltration and leachate production, as
well as erosion. During the heavy rain periods, geosynthetic
cover materials (Covertech C-440) would also be an alternative
cover in the event greenwaste wasn't accessible at the site.
The amount of moisture permeating through the Covertech C-440
material is reported to be negligible.
AIR MOVEMENT
The greenwaste alternate cover will restrict air movement for
odor control and dispersion. The greenwaste cover will
provide temporary barrier cell walls. Final barrier cell
walls are provided by the soil cover used for weekly and
intermediate cover (Figure 1) .
FIRE
The greenwaste cover material should not be considered as
combustible material if chipped and used immediately after
collection. Provisions for stock piling soil cover material
and water dispensing equipment in the immediate area will be
a requisite.
LITTER
By applying 1211 thick greenwaste cover at the end of each work
day, the alternative cover will minimize blowing paper and
litter.
ODOR
The alternative greenwaste cover will reduce the daily odor
and the soil cover on Friday of each week will provide the
required odor suppression.
5
