OUR
Results
As shown in Table 1, methane was not detected above the lower explosive limit (LEL) during the
third quarter of 2002. The GEM displayed a stabilized reading of 4.1 percent by volume for
methane at probe SGP-3B and 0.7 percent by volume for methane at probe SGP-2A. The other
soil gas probes at the Austin Road landfill displayed no methane during the third quarter of 2002.
The monitoring results at the scale house indicated methane was not present in the building.
The relative air pressure of the probes ranged from 0.0 to 0.40 inches of water, indicating that the
pressure within the soil gas probes is at or near equilibrium with atmospheric pressure. Oxygen
readings in soil gas probes ranged from 10.7 percent by volume in SGP-4A to 20.3 percent by
volume in SGP-2A. Carbon dioxide readings in soil gas probes ranged from 1.1 percent by
volume in SGP-lA to 7.6 percent by volume in SGP-4A.
Methane was not detected above the LEL during the third quarter 2002 monitoring event.
According to Forward personnel, soil gas monitoring will be conducted again during the fourth
quarter of 2002.
