The operator
of the landfill has requested that Austin Road Landfill be able to operate the facility in violation
of the 1200 tons/day tonnage limit, found in the facilities Solid Waste Facility Permit.
The operator has proposed to accept 2,200 tons daily for a period of not more than 120 days.
The facility would divert the additional waste from the Forward Inc. facility. The combined
tonnage limit for both facilities would not be exceeded (1200 + 6680= 7880). Because the
facilities are located adjacent to each other, there should not be any anticipated increase in the
amount of traffic in the area due to this activity. The increase would allow the operator to fill the
remaining air space of the unlined cell in an expedited manner and begin construction of
protective intermediate cap in the next construction period(July 2001).
If you have any questions in regard to this request, please contact Robert McClellon, Lead Senior
R.E.H.S. of my staff at(209)468-0332.
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H.
Health Officer
Robert McClellon, Lead Senior R.E.H.S.
Environmental Health Division
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
