III.A.9. Representative Cross
Five representative landfill cross sections are shown ort
Appendix B,
Sections
Drawing P5. These sections show the existing landfill, the
CEP Dwg. P5
vertical and horizontal expansion phases, and the final landfill
grade. Sections A, B, C, and D are cut north-south through a
leachate collection trench and sump for Phases I, II, III, and IV
respectively. Section F is cut east-west through Phases I, II,
III, and IV showing the drainage slope to the leachate
collection trenches, the top of the landfill is shown as a
projection beyond the section cut.
Sections show specific design elements of the liner, leachate
collection system, cover system, surface water system are
discussed in Section 1- below.
III.A.10. Design Details
23 CCR 2542 (Liner
Liner S sy tem: Liner system is a composite liner consisting of
Appendix B,
System)
a 2 foot clay liner (max. permeability 1 x 10-7 cm/sec) overlaid
CEP Dwg. P6
by a geomembrane. For final design, a geosynthetic clay liner
Appendix I, FDSR
(GCL) may be substituted for the 2 foot clay liner. See
Sec. 1.3.3, Pages
Drawing P6 for typical liner details.
1-8 to 1-9
14 CCR 17773,
Final Cover - Existing Landfill: Final covering existing landfill
Appendix B,
23 CCR 2581 (Final Cover)
areas would consist of a 2-foot foundation layer and a 1-foot
CEP Dwg. P6
minimum soil barrier (max. permeability 1 x 10-6 cm/sec) with
Appendix I, FDSR
a 1-foot minimum topsoil layer.
Sec. 1.5.3 Page 1-17 '
Final Cover - Expansion Landfill: Final cover for expansion
landfill areas will consist of a composite cover system an 18
inch foundation layer (max. permeability 1 x 10-6 cm/sec), a
geomembrane, and an 18 inch soil cover layer. For final
design, a geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) may be substituted for
the low permeability foundation layer or the soil barrier layer.
See Drawing P6 for typical cover details.
