been detected in four consecutive quarters, since November 2001. 1,1-DCE has not been detected
in six consecutive quarters, since April 2001.
Surface Water
There was no water present during the fourth quarter monitoring event. However, "first storm"
surface water samples for the 2002-03 rainy season were taken on December 16, 2002.
All concentrations of quarterly monitoring and field parameters are below established
concentration limits.
GROUNDWATER FLOW DIRECTION
Groundwater levels were measured in monitoring wells MW-1,MW-2, and MW-3 during the
fourth quarter monitoring event. Groundwater was determined to flow towards the southwest
(Figure 3). The groundwater gradient is 0.0015 foot per foot, calculated from the contours
drawn.
STANDARD OBSERVATIONS
Weekly site inspections were performed during the fourth quarter of 2002. A summary of the
weekly observations for the quarter has been compiled(Appendix G). A signature on the form
certifies that all observations were performed and are accurate.
RUN-OFF/RUN-ON FACILITIES
The Foothill Sanitary Landfill utilizes several methods to control run-on and run-off. The natural
topography of the area controls any run-on into the site. Also, the working area is a significant
distance from the property boundary, so run-on from surrounding properties is minimal. To
control run-off, a perimeter ditch along the north, west and east ends of the unit directs all storm
water run-off into a sedimentation basin on the east side of the site. The rest of the run-off from
the unit gathers into a temporary sedimentation basin that is the excavation of a future module.
During the fourth quarter of 2002 there were no breeches to any of the run-on/run-off facilities.
They will continue to be monitored in the future.
MMFoothill\Groundwater Monitoring\Repts2002\4thQtr02report.wpd
Foothill Sanitary Landfill Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
40'Quarter and Annual 2002 Groundwater Monitoring Report 7 County of San Joaquin
