LABORATORY NARRATIVE
ASTM D-1945 Modified
San Joaquin County,Solid Waste/Public Works
Workorder#0308153B
Two 6 Liter Summa Canister samples were received on August 07, 2003. The laboratory performed analysis
via Modified ASTM Method D-1945 for Methane and fixed gases in air using GC/FID or GC/TCD. The
method involves direct injection of up to 1.0 mL of sample. With the exception of analyses conducted in
accordance with AFCEE 3.0, all reported compound quantifications were calculated from response factors
derived from the first Continuing Calibration Verification of each relevant analytical batch. See the data
sheets for the reporting limits for each compound.
Since Nitrogen is used to pressurize samples, the reported Nitrogen values are calculated by adding all the
' sample components and subtracting from 100%.
Requirement ASTMD-1945 ATL Modifications
Daily calibration Analyze two replicate One standard is analyzed and used for daily calibration.
standards to insure
precision;use one
standard to calibrate
instrument.
Sample analysis Equilibrate samples to No heating of samples is performed.
20-50°F.above source
temperature at field
sampling
Sample calculation Response factor is Peak areas are used for all target analytes to quantitate
calculated using peak concentrations.
height for C5 and
lighter compounds
Normalization(if applicable) Sum of original values Sum of original values may range between 75-125%.
' Should not differ from
100.0%by more than
1.0%
' Receiving Notes
Analytical Notes
Since Nitrogen is used to pressurize samples, the Nitrogen values are calculated by adding all the sample
components and subtracting from 100%.
' Definition of Data Qualifying Flags
Seven qualifiers may have been used on the data analysis sheets and indicate as follows:
' B- Compound present in laboratory blank greater than reporting limit.
J- Estimated value.
E- Exceeds instrument calibration range.
S - Saturated peak.
Q - Exceeds quality control limits.
