GEOSYNrEc CONSULTANTS
Dr. Hari Sharma, P.E., G.E.
22 January 2001
Page 2
bedrock PHGA for the Mu, 6.4 MPE event on the Great Valley blind thrust system
equals 0.09 g. The expected median free-field bedrock PHGA for the MW 6.7 MCE
event on the Great Valley blind thrust system equals 0.13 g. The expected median free-
field bedrock PHGA for the M,,, 7.9 MPE (and the MCE) events on the San Andreas
fault system equals 0.06 g.
To characterize the MPE and MCE in the time domain, GeoSyntec selected a
suite of four accelerograms compatible with the above cited ground motion parameters.
These accelerograms may be used in seismic response analyses performed for landfill
design at the Forward Landfill site.
SEISMIC EXPOSURE EVALUATION
Background
The Forward Landfill is located at 9999 South Austin Road in San Joaquin
County, California, approximately 7 miles (ll ]an) southeast of Stockton. The site
location with respect to the major roads in the area is shown in Figure 1. Approximate
site coordinates are 37.877 degrees north latitude and -121.183 degrees west longitude.
The 157-acre (63.5 ha) landfill site encompasses several Waste Management
Units (WMUs), including an 8-acre (3.2 ha ) California Class I hazardous waste WMU.
The Class I unit, known as WMU A, was closed in 1989 and is currently in post-closure
monitoring. At present, only designated and non-hazardous wastes are treated and/or
disposed of at the Forward Landfill in either California Class H or Class III WMUs.
Seismic Hazard Evaluation
GeoSyntec evaluated the seismic hazard for the Forward Landfill site on the
basis of information provided in recent relevant studies of known active and potentially
P IPRIpCAWPWMICALIF-WCIFORWAPDTOR-/HAZDOC
