Although few, the self- haul vehicles are directed by site staff to dump in an area
separated from the transfer vehicles by at least 50 feet. Landfill staff is present at all
times when self -haul customers are at the active face.
6.4.2 Salvaginq
A minimum of salvage occurs at the site due to the removal of most useful materials at
the transfer stations prior to delivery to the Foothill Landfill. Inert materials, such as
demolition debris, are "salvaged"by diverting to a beneficial use.
In some cases, "salvaging" involves collecting materials that may not be disposed in the
landfill. These include:
• Tires - Stored on a tire trailer provided by Waste Recovery West and
removed as needed.
• CRTs - Stored in bins and transferred to Lovelace Transfer Station. The
CRTs are presently removed from the transfer station by a commercial
recycler.
The Operator provides the County with records of the quantities of recycled or salvaged
materials (Table 52). Scavenging is not currently allowed at the site.
5.X6.4.3 Volume Reduction
Volume reduction at the site is accomplished by compaction of the waste in the active
face. Most waste received is from transfer stations, where significant volume reduction
has already occurred. Shredding or baling of waste is not in practice at the site at this
tlme0 mi n♦ vnlin io nnnd anted at the site Plate 7 1 shows s +he
.-,ee€fec-,nTg .
IGGat+ens en the landfill w"eFe different FeGyGIed-aaeieFhal; erg -stored.
