C
DAILY FIELD REPORT Page 1 of 1
Project Name: Foothill Sanitary Landfill - Area 2A Report Number: OS4
Project Number: 14-101-01 Date: Friday 07/24/15
Owner: Dept. of Public Works, San Joaquin County CQA Monitors: Jude A
Contractor: R J Gordon Construction, Inc. M. Hu and
Weather: Clear Wind: 0-10 mph.
Tem erature: A22rox. range 70- 95 F Other:
The contractor worked from 5:30 am to 4:00 pm.
Excavation: (1) CAT D6 dozer graded Basin 1. (1) 4k gallon water truck was used to maintain excavations, haul roads and fill
areas.
Slope Subgrade Preparation: Up to (6) laborers used hand tools to prepare the slope subgrade for geosynthetic materials.
The slope was previously smooth drum rolled and the handwork today was to address deficient areas.
Access Road: No activity.
Foundation Layer: (1) water -truck and (1) CAT 5413 smooth drum roller maintained the finish surface of foundation layer
soil on the floor in advance of geosynthetics placement.
Sump Riser Construction: The 24" Secondary riser pipe was welded today. GCL and HDPE liner were placed in the
secondary liner trench today. The geomembrane welds were spark tested and the 24" HDPE pipe and the 6" instrumentation
pipes were placed in the trench using the CAT 320 excavator, the Hitachi 300 excavator and one CAT extendable forklift. The
installation was in conformance with the plans and the secondary liner was not damaged by placement of the pipe. Coarse
Gravel was placed around the perforated section of the secondary risers at the toe by the end of the day. The subgrade
between the secondary and primary riser trenches did not conform to the grades per Detail 15 on Sheet C-7 as the material
when excavated resulted in an irregular blocky surface. CQA discussed the issue with the contractor several times prior to
placement of the secondary liner. He stated that the only way for him to be able to repair the subgrade was if the secondary
riser pipe and fill were in place. He stated that he would address the grade issues before placing liner on the Subgrade for the
primary riser pipe.
North West Stockpile: No activity was observed.
South Stockpile 2 (Operations): No activity was observed.
South Stockpile 3: No activity was observed.
Geosynthetic Liner: Geosynthetics detailing and deployment continued on the floor. QA activities included monitoring of
placement, trial welds, seaming and collection of destructive seam samples. A cumulative quantity of approximately
430,000 SF of GCL and geomembrane has been deployed.
Excavate Anchor Trench: (1) CAT 320 excavator finished excavation of the anchor trench at the top of the east slope today.
The material was very blocky and fractured. The trench sides were rough following excavation.
Equipment Onsite: (1) CAT D8T dozer, (1) CAT D6T LGP dozer, (1) CAT D6R dozer (with slope board) (1) CAT 621G water
pull, (2) CAT 627 scrapers, (1) 14H motorgrader, (1) CAT 825H compactor, (1) water truck, (1) Hitachi 300 excavator, (1)
CAT CS 54B smooth drum roller (vibratory type), (1) CAT TH160B folk lift, (1) CAT 430D backhoe. (1) CAT 320 excavator
Problems/Resolutions.
Visitors:
Reviewed By: M. Raub
