Nogales
Contractor: R I Gordon Construction, Inc. M. Hu and
Weather: Clear - Hot Wind: 0-15 mph.
Temperature: A22rox. ran a 56- 90 F Other:
The contractor worked from 5:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Operations Layer Processing: No Screening observed today.
Operations Layer Placement: (1) Hyundai 300 loaded (2) Cat 745 Dump Truck with Screened Operations Layer for
placement on cell floor. (1) D6 LGP and (1) D4 Dozer were used to spread Operations layer 2 ft thick over deployed 8 oz/sy
geotextile along middle of cell working to the north and west. Random samples of Operations layer were hand sieved in field
with 1" screen during placement. Observed +3" Material in two loads. Contractor informed that material doesn't meet
specification requirements. Placement discontinued at 2:30 pm
Gravel Drainage Material Placement: 19-20 various types of end -dumps were used to import Gravel Drainage Material
(GDM) from the Cemex Rock Plant until 4:30 pm. Observed trucks operating on at least 3 It of GDM overlying the
Geomembrane. (1) CAT D6 LGP dozer equipped with GPS spread GDM in the center of cell floor pushing north and west this
morning beginning at 5:30 am. (1) CAT D6 LGP dozer equipped with GPS spread previously stockpiled GDM along northern
toe of slope. (1) Laborer controlled wrinkles. GDM placement discontinued at approximately 11:30 pm due to moderate to
heavy wrinkles observed in HDPE Liner. GDM import continued, with material stockpiled onto previously deployed GDM. A
sample of imported GDM was tested for gradation in the field. The material met the project specifications. AES QA personnel
monitored the placement and verified the depths of the placed LCRS gravel by using a dulled probe.
Geotextile: RJ Gordon deployed and Great Basin sewed 8 oz/sy geotextile over GDM along middle portion of the cell heading
west. (2) Laborers were used to hand roll Geotextile into place. (1) Laborer Observed using hand sewing machine to sew
seams.
Geocomposite: The remaining area of Geocomposite was deployed on the west end of Northern slope. Observed nylon ties
secured at 3 foot intervals along length and 6 -inch intervals along width. Geotextile seams were sewn using hand sewing
machine. Installation resulted in horizontal seams on the slope. The horizontal seams were constructed in accordance with
the specifications and guidance provided by the Engineer. The panels covering the northern slope have not been tied to eth
existing Area 1 geocomposite at this time.
Leachate Collection Pipe: Contractor installed portions of Middle and Northern Leachate Collection Pipe. Approximately
150 If of 6" perforated HDPE pipe was placed today. (1) John Deere 410 Backhoe and (1) Cat 950 M Loader operating over
completed operations layer soil was used to place coarse gravel over 6" Perforated HDPE Pipe. Coarse gravel and 6" HDPE
pipe was wrapped in 8 oz/sy Geotextile. Gravel was measured to be a minimum 1 ft deep and a minimum 4 ft wide. Geotextile
was measured to have a 2 ft minimum overlap.
24" HDPE Riser Pipe and Sump: No activity observed today
Equipment Onsite: (1) CAT D6T LGP dozer, (2) water trucks, (1) Hitachi 300 excavator, (1) CAT TH160B folk lift, (1) John
Deere 410 Backhoe. (1) CAT 623 paddlewheel scraper. (1) Power Screen, (1) Belt Stacker, (1) Hyundai 480LC excavator, (1)
CAT D6T dozer, (2) Cat 745 Dump Truck, (1) Cat 950 M Loader (1) CAT D4 Dozer
Problems/Resolutions.
Visitors:
Reviewed By: M.
