Mr. Taj Bahadori
Construction Memorandum #2
14 July 2015
Page 2
Geosyntec O
consultants
• 60 -mil double sided textured (DST) HDPE GM2 — manufactured by GSE
Environmental, Inc.; and
• 0.75 -ft thick layer of the proposed GDM.
Two (2) 15 -ft wide panels of the GCL (overlapped about 8 in.), overlain by one 23 -ft wide panel of
DST HDPE GM, were installed prior to GDM placement.
Placement of the GDM was in accordance with the Specifications (i.e., the GDM was piled next
to the test pad and pushed over the HDPE GM using a low ground pressure (LGP) D6T dozer).
Sixteen (16) passes were made by the dozer while installing the GDM.
Once the required thickness of the GDM was placed, the Contractor performed additional 22 passes
over the 0.75 -ft thick layer of GDM. Afterwards, the Contractor carefully removed the GDM and
Geosyntec personnel visually inspected the HDPE GM for holes, punctures, scratches, etc.
The inspection indicated no damage to the HDPE GM. There were no observed holes, punctures,
scratches, etc., as a result of the construction loading. Therefore, Geosyntec approves the use of the
Cemex 5/16" x 1/8" pea gravel for construction of the Area 2A expansion at the Foothill Sanitary
Landfill. During placement of the GDM, equipment loading should be limited to the maximum
loading condition applied during this test pad. The CQA Consultant shall monitor GDM placement
operations to verify that underlying geosynthetics are not damaged and remain in intimate
contact during placement operations.
All work performed as part of this construction shall meet the requirements of the project
construction drawings and specifications, as modified by relevant construction memoranda.
Enclosure — Test Pad Photographs
2 The HDPE GM used for the test pad was from a certified roll for this project (Roll #18772).
P\SJC\1780\Task 6.1\CM #2 (GDM Test Pad)
`ffmnmi . i
