The interface testing was performed at SGI Testing Laboratory (SGI), Norcross,
Georgia, in accordance with the test procedures specified in Section 02800 - Interface Shear
Strength Requirements, of the Specifications.
2.0 Test Series Configurations
The specifications called for four single interface strength test series, as follows:
A - HDPE geomembrane vs. geosynthetic clay liner (GCL)
B - GCL vs. prepared foundation layer (base liner)
C - GCL vs. side slope subgrade soil
D - HDPE geomembrane vs geocomposite
The on-site soils for the foundation layer (base liner) and side slope subgrade were the same
materials with no significant variation in material type and compaction standards. Therefore,
testing for series B and C would have been duplicate tests on identical materials, and, only Test
Series B was actually performed. The results would be considered as being representative for
both Series B and C. The actual numbering of the test series for the test program was as follows:
• Test Series 1- Foundation layer soil vs GCL
• Test Series 2 - GCL vs. HDPE geomembrane
9307 Research Drive ® Irvine, California 92618 • (949) 379-2450, Fax: (949) 379-2470, htfp.11www. aesciences. com
