As-Built CQA Report for the Construction of Area 2A at the Foothill Sanitary Landfill
San Joaquin County,California
overlying GDM. The Contractor prefabricated the sump riser and collection pipes adjacent to the
sump and placed the completed pipes utilizing slings attached to the Hitachi 300 excavator and CAT
D6 dozer. After placement of the risers, the floor LCRS collection piping was completed through the
upper portion of the primary sump. Coarse gravel was placed using CAT 950 excavator positioned
above a completed section of GDM and operations layer soil above the liner area and finish grading
of the coarse gravel was performed by hand.
After the gravel had been placed to final grades, the Contractor's surveyor performed point-over-
point survey for GDM layer thickness and submitted the certified GDM layer thickness data for CQA
Manager's review.As-built survey data are included in Appendix D.2. The gravel was covered by 8-
oz geotextile that was placed as a separation layer prior to placement of the operations layer soil.
7.3 CQA TESTING OF LCRS AND SUMP GRAVEL MATERIALS
Approximately 13,200 cu. yds. of GDM and 1,300 cu. yds. of coarse gravel were used to construct
the LCRS system. Prior to approval of the gravel sources, the properties of the gravels, including
gradation and hydraulic conductivity, as certified by an independent testing laboratory, were
reviewed. To check delivered gravels for conformance with the specifications, field samples were
collected from the material at the point of delivery. The sample gradation was performed in the
field and at AP Engineering laboratory and the results were checked for conformance with the
approved gradation specifications. After field testing indicated the material was in conformance
with the specifications, AES CQA Monitors sampled the in-place GDM and coarse gravel at a
frequency of one per 1,500 and 500 cu.yds.,respectively for gradation analysis (ASTM C136) and at
a frequency of 2,500 and 500 cu. yds. respectively, for constant-head permeability tests
(ASTM D2434) as called for in the Specifications. The GDM and coarse gravel materials were
specified to have a minimum hydraulic conductivity of 1 and 3 cm/sec, respectively. A total 9
gradation analyses and hydraulic conductivity tests were performed for the GDM and 3 for the
coarse gravel. The test results are summarized in the following tables and in Tables 4 and 5,
respectively. Laboratory test data sheets are included in Appendices EA and E.5, respectively.
•
PA14 Projects114-101(SJCDPW North County and Foothillffoothill CQAIReportlFinal ReportToothill CQA Rport-Final.docx
31
