• Provide an individual to meet the EMS at the project entrance, to minimize time in locating <br /> the injured worker(s). <br /> • Wait for emergency care, document the event, and maintain radio contact with the injured. <br /> The SS/SHSO shall determine where the injured person is being transported and will then go to <br /> that medical facility. If the SS/SHSO is unable to travel to the medical facility, then the HSM <br /> must be contacted to gain approval for allowing alternate personnel to go the medical facility. <br /> In the event of a chemical exposure, the following procedures shall be followed after summoning <br /> the EMS: <br /> Skin Contact: <br /> ❑ Flush with water <br /> ❑ Remove clothing, flush skin <br /> ❑ Obtain prompt medical attention, as necessary <br /> Inhalation: <br /> ❑ Remove the person from the area <br /> ❑ Administer first aid/CPR, as needed <br /> ❑ Obtain immediate medical attention. <br /> Ingestion: <br /> — Contact the Poison Control Center for immediate treatment, then obtain immediate <br /> medical attention <br /> — Inducing vomiting may cause further injury to the victim; follow instructions from <br /> the MEDS and/or Poison Control Center <br /> Eye Contact: <br /> — Flush eyes immediately with water for a minimum of 15 minutes <br /> — Obtain immediate medical attention <br /> 8.4.2 Serious Exposures or Injuries Requiring Off-Site Medical Care <br /> The SS will provide the necessary support and dedicate appropriate project resources to the <br /> response effort. <br /> Upon the realization that an individual(s) needs medical care, but not requiring transport by <br /> ambulance, the following procedure will be used: <br /> • Administer first aid and contact the SS to arrange for transport to medical facility by on-site <br /> vehicle. <br /> • Notify the HSM. <br /> • When the situation has been stabilized, decontaminate the injured person. <br /> 8-4 <br />
