* The County assumed operation and instituted a more
accurate record-keeping system in 1990.
** Installation of scales provided a more accurate and
reliable measure of quantities in 1990.
The first four landfills listed above are general use landfills
which accept municipal household waste. The French Camp disposal
site receives only tree trimmings and yard clippings, and the
Forward Inc. Class II landfill accepts commercial and industrial
waste and certain designated waste.
All loads arriving at County disposal sites are required to be
properly tarped as part of the County's Vehicle Tarping Program.
Users who arrive with uncovered loads in pickup trucks and utility
trailers have the option of paying a double disposal fee or
purchasing a tarp. All other uncovered loads are charged a double
disposal fee.
Generally, gate fee increases are projected during preparation of
the fiscal budget. Proposed gate fees then become effective on
January 1st of the year that the proposed budget is in effect. No
gate fee increases are projected for the 1991/92 fiscal year for
County disposal sites.
WASTE DIVERSION PROGRAM:
As part of its integrated waste management planning, the County
will be diverting recyclable materials at its disposal sites
wherever practical. Some diversion has been done at Lovelace
Transfer Station for several years. In July of 1990 a pilot program
of wood, tires, and scrap metal diversion was initiated at the
Harney Lane Landfill.
These programs are in addition to the diversion being accomplished
by the private sector throughout the County.
4
