Joaquin County utilizing Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Division staff. It is
located on Harney Lane, between Tully and Jack Tone Roads, about ten miles east of the
City of Lodi. It is about one and a half miles east of San Joaquin County's Harney Lane
Sanitary Landfill, which is currently in the closure and postclosure stages.
The North County Recycling Center And Sanitary Landfill accepts waste between the hours
of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily from the public as well as the franchised and licensed
collectors for the North County Area. Approximately 467 tons of municipal, commercial
and industrial wastes were accepted daily at the landfill during 1994. Estimated remaining
permitted landfill capacity for North County Recycling Center And Sanitary Landfill is
projected to last through the year 2027.
Waste loads coming into the North County Recycling Center And Sanitary Landfill which
have not been through a transfer station with recycling programs are dumped on an
enclosed tipping floor. County staff and Alternate Work Program personnel manually sort
recyclable material. The remaining waste is pushed into bins and transported to the landfill
for disposal. Recycling will increase over time as markets are developed for recyclable
material and additional personnel are allocated to this program. When necessary, future '
recycling activities will be increased through the installation of a mechanized sorting
system.
The Recycling Center provides bins for drop off of presorted recyclables which include
aluminum cans, newspapers, clear and colored glass, steel cans, and polyethylene
terepthalate (PET) and high-density polyethylene(HDPE) plastic containers. The
Recycling Center also houses a household hazardous waste recycling program which
accepts used motor oil, antifreeze, latex paint and spent lead-acid batteries from the public
free of charge.
2. 1994 Waste Quantities:
The refuse collectors deliver waste in rear loaders, front loaders, roll-off trucks, and
transfer trailers. The self-haul waste arrives by automobiles, compact pickup trucks, large
pickup trucks, vans, trailers, and flat bed trucks.
14
