LCRS design for the Forward Landfill includes 6 -inch diameter pipe, which can
accommodate 0.73 cfs of flow.
LCRS Pipe Strength Calculations
The required LCRS pipe wall thickness calculation is based on the Iowa Deflection
Formula. Various factors, such as pipe modulus of elasticity, deflection lag, pipe bedding
constant, height, and density of the waste above the pipe effect the total deflection of the
pipe. Slotting has the effect of reducing the total pipe strength. An adjustment for the
effects of slotting is applied and accounted for during the selection of the appropriate pipe
Standard Dimension Ratio (SDR). A spreadsheet utilizing the Iowa Formula is included
herein. The analysis indicates that a slotted 6 -inch diameter HDPE pipe with SDR 7 and
3/8 -inch crushed aggregate bedding around the pipe will allow a maximum deflection of
1.5 percent under the proposed 200 foot maximum refuse fill height above the pipe,
which is within the acceptable standard of 1.75 percent for allowable deflection.
C
