<br />Urgent care is first aid given in
<br />life-threatening situations. These
<br />situations include stopped
<br />breathing, heart attack and stroke,
<br />heavy bleeding, poisoning, and
<br />shock.
<br />If alone, take care of
<br />life-threatening situations first, then
<br />seek help immedately. If several
<br />people are available, one should go
<br />for help while others help you give
<br />first aid. DO NOT LEAVE people
<br />who need urgent care.

<br />local Poison Control Center. Keep
<br />it near your phone.
<br />Medic Alert Foundation.
<br />International provides 24-hour
<br />medical emergency protection to
<br />members with special medical
<br />conditions. In an emergency,
<br />medical and emergency personnel
<br />are directed to look for the Medic
<br />Alert, or similar emblem worn as a
<br />bracelet or necklace and to take
<br />appropriate action when
<br />necessary. Additional information

<br />1. If the victim is NOT
<br />breathing:
<br />Phone 9-1-1 at once or
<br />get someone else to call _

<br />begin Rescue Breathing
<br />(see the following page).

<br />distress—but breathing:
<br />Phone 9-1-1 at once.
<br />3. What to say:
<br />a. Give the phone
<br />number from which you
<br />are calling.
<br />b. Give the address apd
<br />any special directions of
<br />how to find the victim.
<br />c. Describe the victim's
<br />condition (for
<br />example—conscious,
