3.0 SITE CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 TOPOGRAPHY
The terrain at the landfill and surrounding vicinity consists of a relatively
featureless plain. Both the north and south branches of the South Fork of Little
John's Creek (North and South Branches) traverse the site, generally flowing
from the east to the west. Original ground surface elevations range from 30 to
40 feet above mean seal level (amsl) (see Figure 3). Currently developed
portions of the site reach a maximum elevation of approximately 80 feet arnsl in
the existing Austin Road Landfill area, and approximately 130 feet amsl in the
existing Forward Landfill area, see Drawing 2 (Site Plan).
3.2 CLIMATE
The climate of the region is typical of the California Central Valley. Winters are
generally cold and wet with fog, while summers are hot and dry. Climatological
data were gathered from representative weather stations near the site.
Representative climatologic stations were selected based on their proximity to the
site and reliable period of records for the station (30 years or more).
3.2.1 TEMPERATURE
Normal monthly temperatures were calculated from the Stockton Weather
Station office (WSO) (No. 8558, latitude 37°54, longitude 121°15', Elevation
22 feet amsl), located approximately 3 miles west of the site, from data collected
from 1948 through 1990. These temperatures ranged from a minimum average
temperature of 42.5°F in January to a maximum average temperature of 78.0°F
in August, with an annual mean temperature of 61.5°F (National Climatic Data
Center, 1990).
3.2.2 PRECIPITATION
Precipitation at the project site is typical of the Central Valley region. Rainfall is
seasonal, with approximately 90 percent of the rainfall occurring between
November and April. Snowfall is unusual at the site.
Forward Landfill JTD 3-1
L:\Allied\2000.193\Reports\]d:Sec-3.0:05/21/02
BRYAN A.STIRRAT 6 ASSOCIATES
