Heavy Equipment Operators. The heavy equipment operators operate a <br /> variety of equipment including compactors, scrapers, dozers, graders, loaders, <br /> and water trucks. The equipment operators compact the waste and place soil <br /> cover material or ADC's over the waste, perform load checks, keep records of <br /> the quantity of cover material used, and perform general maintenance around <br /> the site and with equipment. <br /> Scalehouse Attendant. The scalehouse attendant keeps the landfill records, <br /> directs haulers to the appropriate waste disposal areas and checks waste <br /> manifests. <br /> Equipment Maintenance Staff. The equipment maintenance staff <br /> schedules repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment, performs repairs and <br /> maintenance of equipment and vehicles, orders parts and supplies for <br /> equipment, and performs general maintenance around the site. <br /> Administrative and Office Personnel. The administrative and office <br /> personnel schedule the arrival of waste haulers; check the haulers' waste <br /> manifests; keep records on incoming haulers, volume of waste material <br /> accepted, and the volume of cover material used; perform communications <br /> tasks; and maintain the office. <br /> Additional personnel will be added on an as-needed basis when, and if, a <br /> demand arises. Construction of the new WMUs will be performed by outside <br /> contractors. <br /> 6.2.1 TRAINING <br /> Staff training generally consists of on-the-job training under the supervision of <br /> someone experienced in the various aspects of the skills being taught. <br /> Potential hazards and safety procedures are stressed. Currently, there are <br /> daily, weekly and monthly meetings. The daily meetings consist of health, <br /> safety, and current operational issues. The weekly meetings include health and <br /> safety discussions and videos, when available. The monthly meetings consist <br /> of 1 hour training (equipment, regulatory, etc.) sessions. <br /> Employees are provided with safety vests, hard hats, hearing protection, safety <br /> glasses, dust masks and respirators, as appropriate for personal safety in their <br /> Forward Landfill JTD 6-2 <br /> L:\Allied\2000.193\Reports\finaljtd:Sec-6.0 6-9-03:5/22/02 <br /> Rev. 1: 7/2002: Rev. 2: 4/2003; Rev 3: 6/2003 <br />
