In addition, the landfill has portable lights for
operations after dark (i.e., in the winter).
6.6.5 SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Forward has a number of site and personal safety procedures in place. The
following equipment and systems have been installed at the site to prevent
and control accidental ignition of combustible materials:
• Fire extinguishers - inspected daily and recharged annually;
• Annual fire inspections by the Manteca-Lathrop Fire Department;
• A soil supply is kept near the working face to smother a potential fire;
• Two water trucks are available;
• Emergency 4-inch fire hose hook up in the southeast corner of the landfill,
north of the South Fork and a 2-1/2-inch fire hose hook-up in the entrance
facilities area for the fire department;
• Knoxbox outside the landfill main entrance with keys to the main gate,
landfill office, transfer station office, and fire box; and,
• A pressurized water system, as needed.
Regular maintenance, inspection, and housekeeping procedures are
conducted for this equipment. Emergency equipment operating instructions,
escape routes, emergency response (including a separate section on ACM)
and evacuation procedures are identified in the Emergency Response Plan
(discussed in Section 8.3 and included in Appendix J).
In addition to the equipment and systems mentioned above, the following
emergency equipment is maintained at the site at all times:
• Industrial first-aid kits located in the landfill office trailer, transfer station
office, and maintenance area;
Forward Landfill)TD 6-29
L:\Allied\2000.193\Reports\finaljtd:Sec-6.0 6-9-03:5/22/02
Rev. 1: 7/2002: Rev. 2: 4/2003; Rev 3: 6/2003
