Although different brands of conductivity meters vary, calibration Procedures.are similar for
of them. A generalized calibration procedure follows: r
1: Turn on the instrument, check the battery, and allow to warm up if necessary.
2. Rinse the conductivity probe and temperature.Probe with deionized water then place in
the standard solution. At ForWard For' Landfill conductivities are usually within S00 to 1500
umh0s/1,therefore the 1000 umhosA solution is appropriate to use.
3. Adj est the-meter for the appropriate conductivity scale and temperature thea read the
conductivity.
4_ If required use.the "calibrate" adjustment on the meter to correct.the instrument to read
the correct conductivity.
The calibration process will be.recorded on a conductivity calibration log_-Copies of calibration- .
logs for•each individu2pinstcument arc-kept in-a:binder_-at-the•o;fficc. he logs-am reviewed
periodically to assess whether the- ' ent is becoming more difficult to c ah--brate and
therefore needs adjustment by the manufachu er,or if new probes are-requircoL
Tdrbidity Meter
Tuibidity measurement is subject to variations due to instrument drift• For this reason turbidity
meters must be calibrated before and after sampling on each clay and at least once more duffing
the day. - To calibrate a turbidity meter•thc instrument.reading is adjusted to read correctly for
soludons with a.standard turbidity.
Staudard turbidity solutions are mixed fresh, according to package instructions, for -each.
sampling event. Standard solutions for turbidity are commercially available. These standards
are pu ed fitsh and discarded.after shelf life has expired, Shelf lives vary depending on the
brand of standards used. If preTrq=cd solution is used, the expiration date of the solution will
be noted on the cah'bration log.
Although different brands-of turbidity meters vary, calibration procedures are'similar for all of
them.. A gericraUzed calibration.procedure follows:
1. Turn on the instrument, check the battery, and allow to warm up if necessary;
E49-Fo123tOR3ZS A-4 July 14,2040
Coprfgk 20M ,tae.
