Sampling Equipment
.Interim gas sampling probes ries at were used to monitor subsurface
g the landfill perimeter. . .
Each probe consists of a S-faot long, %-inch diameter Stainless steel pipe, with Yl-inch holes
aftggered every Z inches at the bottom 18 inches-to allow for gases to migrate into the probes, A
pointed tip was welded to the end of the probe for better penetration.
A ball valve and brass fitting were installed at the top of each probe to contain gas pressures and
facilitate bstn=ent hook-up to the-probe. The valves were left closed ekcept during monitoring
or irmtrument reading. Each probe is tagged with-a brass plate and identified as "GP-1" through
"GP-10". . • •
AGA-90 Landtec Infra red•Gas Analyzer was used to monitor methane, carbon.dioxide.(Co.,),
and oxygen (OD levels at each probe location. The analyzer was calibrated for methane, COx, and
02 prior to use in the field_.Calibration.logs are.included.in this report,
Gas Monitoring
Ambient air
measurements of meihauc, o -
xygen, carbon dioxide; and barometric-pressure-Were
taken at each gas probe location. Those readings were recorded and•the inmso went was
connected to.the probe. --The valve was opened and, robc.gas pressure
measurements were taken
The probe was then. purged for two. prone volumes. .Readings-were then collected at
4PrOximatcly 3.U- to 60-5econd intervals,-until._a stable- reading was .obtained_: These
-m cuts of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ambient barometric pressure vmm then
recorded. Monitoring was also conducted at various locations in three building situ for the
Presence of methane gas_ Monitoring was conducted at the office trailer at the entrance to the
Landfill, trailer boxes at the service shop, and trailer boxes at the transfer building_ These
locations were monitored for any'gas pockets at the foundation and near any opening from, the
Door such as piping holes, electrical conduits,or floor cracks.
LYSIMETERs
L ctc-rs were sampled using the following standard protocol:
1• Prior to sampling lysimeters, the pressure-vacuum equipment is checked.and cleaned.
849-Fo1\2310M A-12 July 14,2000
2000 kklo, do.tp,-
