Sampling Equipment
Interim gas piing probes were used to monitor subsurfaceases at the landfill
g Perimeter. . .
Each probe consists of a 5-foot long, %cinch diameter stainless steel pipe, with '/._inch hales
staggered every 2 inches at the bottom 18 niches-ta allow for gases'to migrate into the proms, A
pointed tip was welded to the end of the probe for better penetration.
A ball valve and brass fitting acre installed at the top of each probe to contain gas pressures and
facilitate instrument hook-up to the probe. The valves were left closed e7ccept during monitoring
or ' ent reading. Each probe is tagged with-a brass plate and identified as "GP-1" through
"GP-10".
AGA-90 Landtec infra-red•Gas .Analyzer was used to monitor methane, carbon.dioxide.(COQ,
and oxygen (0)levels at each probe location. The analyzer was calibrated for methane, CO,,and
Oz prior to use in the field-Calibration.logs are.included.in this report.
Gas Monitoring
Ambient air measurements of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide; and barometric-pressure-were
• taken at each gas probe location. Thosc readings were recorded
_ and•the usttuincnt was
connected to the probe. 'The valve was opened and probe.gas pressure measurements were taken.
The probe was then. purged for two. probe volumes. Readings - were then collected at
approximately 30- to 60-second intervals,'until..a stable reading was .obtained.: These
meaSUrements of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ambient barometric pressure acre then
recorded. Monitoring was also conducted at various locations in three building sites for the
presence of methane gas. Monitoring was conducted at the office trailer at the entrance to the
Landfill, trailer boxes at the service shop, and trailer boxes at the transfer building. These
locations were monitored for any gas pockets at the foundation and near any opening from the
floor such as piping holes, electrical conduits,or Boor cracks.
LYSWETERS
Lysimetcrs were sampled using the following standard protocol:
1. Prior to sampling lysimcters, the pressure-vacuum equipment is checked and cleaned.
10
849-F0 M IOR325 A-12 ply 14,2040
MKkwdder.6--
