WMU A. The information contained in the Plan
supemedes sections related to sampling and analysis in the April 1989 Postclosure Plan,
Addendum #1 and Addendum #2- The discussion of groundwater sampling methods and
procedures discussed in this appendix,Meinfelder Field Activities Protocol, are an excerpt of the
more comprehensive Sampling and Analysis Plan.
GROUNDWATER MONITORING.
Monitoring Wells
Equipment
The groundwater monitoring wells at Forward are equipped with dedicated submerged pumps for
purging and collection groundwater samples.. The field technician performing the grov, adwatcr
i
monitoring will have a list of equipment that-should be available with.which to complete the
monitoring.' The necessary equipment is listed below. This list includes actual equipment q pment used
to purge and sample the wells in addition, to personal protective gear that .must be worn for -
protction and to reduce the potential for cross contamination of the wells and samples: Some of
the equipment used includes various instruments which require cah-bration. Calt'bration'
procedures are discussed below.
Calibration Procedures
Many of the meters that are used in the field must be cah`brated 6 produce reliable results. The
following discusses calibration rationale, procedures, and frequency for the required instruments.
Water Level Indicator
Water level indicators must be calibrated regularly to assure that data is not being measured
incorrectly due to the cable stretching. To calibrate the water level indicator the cable is run out
to its entire length and measured against a tape measure. The 0 point is the point on the 'pro
which completes the circuit when contacted by the water.
