e. Ci - Soil Interaction Coefficient value shall be determined from long-term
effective stress pullout tests per GRI-GG5, unless the junction creep
testing of the geogrid is used to determine Ta. The C; value is determined
as follows:
CI = F
2 L 6N tan
Where: F = Pullout force (lb/ft), per GRI-GG5
L = Geogrid Embedment Length in Test (ft)
6N = Effective Normal Stress (psf)
= Effective Soil Friction Angle, Degrees
A. The GEOSYNTHETIC CONTRACTOR and QA/QC CONSULTANT shall check
the geogrid upon delivery to verify that the proper material has been received. The
geogrid shall be inspected by the QA/QC CONSULTANT to be free of flaws or
damage occurring during manufacturing, shipping, or handling.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. The subgrade soil shall be prepared as indicated on the Construction Drawings or as
directed by the DESIGN ENGINEER. Foundation soil shall be excavated to the lines
and grades as shown on the drawings or as directed by the DESIGN ENGINEER.
Overexcavated areas shall be filled with compacted backfill material.
3.3 INSTALLATION
A. Geogrid shall be laid at the proper elevation and orientation as shown on the
construction drawings or as directed by the DESIGN ENGINEER. Correct orientation
(roll direction) of the geogrid shall be verified by the QA/QC CONSULTANT.
Geogrid may be temporarily secured in place with staples, pins, sand bags, or backfill
as required by fill properties, fill placement procedures, or weather conditions, or as
directed by the DESIGN ENGINEER.
B. Geogrid soil reinforcement shall be connected/spliced when required to provide
continuity of tensile resistance. Geogrids shall be connected with a mechanical
polymer bar.
•
Forward Landfill WMU FU -06
02779 6 GEOGRID
