INTERFACE LINER
SLOPE REINFORCEMENT DESIGN FOR SLOPES STEEPER THAN 6:1
WMU FU -06 FORWARD INC. LANDFILL
PROBLEM:
Estimate the thickness of subgrade fill required to support the WW FU -06 interface liner on the south
facing former Austin Road Landfill slope and on the south facing "piggyback" slope in the northern
portion.
GIVEN:
These calculations were previously performed for the WNW D-94, D-97, D-98, D-99, FU -03, FU -04, and
FU -05 designs. Since the interface slope liner and LCRS components are approximately the same as for
the previous designs, the methodology used in the previous calculations is applicable to the WMU FU -06
design.
The methodology presented in Jang and Montero (1993) estimates the required subgrade fill thickness to
bridge a 3 ft by 3 ft by 6 ft void under the liner system. The dimensions of the void were estimated by
assuming a worst case scenario of an item as large as a refrigerator collapsing directly under the lining
system.
SUMMARY:
1. For the 5:1 Austin Road Landfill slope, the subgrade fill thickness should be approximately 4- ft.
2. For the 3:1 "piggyback" slope, the subgrade fill thickness should be approximately 4 -ft.
