4.1.2 CURRENT RESOURCE RECOVERY ACTIVITIES <br /> Salvaging, volume reduction, and recycling activities have been conducted at the <br /> transfer station located in the area of the existing Forward Landfill, south of the <br /> South Branch. This area is currently being used for compost operations and is <br /> operated by Sierra Organics and is permitted under a separate SWFP. The <br /> composting facilities include an in-ground scale, office trailer, and processing and <br /> composting pads. The processing pad is an 8-inch thick reinforced concrete <br /> slab. <br /> The compost operation is permitted to process up to 500 tons of source <br /> separated wood and green waste per day. Feedstock is received from sources <br /> throughout San Joaquin and Stanislaus County. The majority of feedstock is <br /> received from San Joaquin County trash/delivery trucks and the remaining from <br /> self-haulers, independent recycling haulers, and tree trimming/landscaping firms. <br /> 4.1.3 EXISTING STORAGE AND SUPPORT FACILITIES <br /> The support facilities consist of an entrance facilities area, scales and scale <br /> houses, water production wells, maintenance and storage area, a transfer <br /> station/resource recovery building, landfill gas recovery plant, a groundwater <br /> treatment plant, and sedimentation/detention ponds. <br /> The entrance facilities area includes two office trailers, portable sanitary facilities, <br /> a landscaped area, and gravel and paved parking areas for employees and <br /> visitors. The main site office is located in the entrance facility. <br /> Two scale houses are located at the site. The main scale house for the existing <br /> Forward Landfill has four scales and is located in the northwest corner of the <br /> existing Forward Landfill site. The secondary scale house has one'scale and is <br /> located at the northeast corner of the existing Austin Road Landfill. Incoming <br /> waste loads are monitored at the scale houses and all vehicular activities are <br /> regulated in accordance with the established Load Checking Program.
