Second Quarter 2007 Groundwater Treatment
Facility Monitoring
Forward Landfill WDR Order No. 115-2003-0080
1.0 Summary
This Second Quarter 2007 Monitoring Report for the Forward Incorporated (Forward)
Landfill Groundwater Treatment Facility (GTF) presents the monitoring results for influent
and effluent. This report was prepared as stipulated by the Central Valley Regional Water
Quality Control Board (CV Water Board) Waste Discharge.Requirements (WDR) Order
No. R5-2003-0080,which was adopted on April 25,2003.
Following review of the information presented in this document, the following conclusions
have been made:
• The GTF operated for 1,888 hours between April 1 and June 30,2007,at 86.4 percent
uptime, and treated 22.266 million gallons of groundwater. During this period, the GTF
removed approximately 3.2 pounds of volatile organic compounds (VOC).
• During second quarter 2007,effluent samples collected in April and June met WDR
Order No. R5-2003-0080 for VOCs. No VOCs were detected.
• Methylene chloride and tetrachloroethylene (PCE)were detected in the effluent sample
collected on May 1,2007. PCE was detected at a concentration equal to the method
detection limit (MDL).The methylene chloride detection most likely resulted from
laboratory contamination. The PCE detection appeared to be anomalous and might have
resulted from cross contamination during sample collection, transport, or analysis. The
GTF was shut down, restarted, and resampled. No VOCs were detected in the
confirmation effluent sample collected on May 25,2007.
• A new check valve was installed inside the vault adjacent to Extraction Well (EW)-2 on
April 3,2007. A brief operational test of the check valve was performed on April 4,2007,
and no leaks were detected. EW-2 was restarted on April 5,2007.
• Three small leaks were detected and repaired at the GTF during second quarter 2007.
Two leaks occurred at EW-2,and the third leak occurred at the influent header pipe.
2.0 Operational Summary
The GTF operated for 1,888 hours between April 1 and June 30,2007, at 86.4 percent uptime,
and treated 22.266 million gallons of groundwater at an average flow rate of 197 gallons per
minute,or 0.283 million gallon per day. During this period, the GTF removed
approximately 3.2 pounds of VOCs.Table 1 presents the monthly average effluent flow
rates in gallons per day.
RDD1071990021(NLH3536.DOC) 1
