!
i
I
i
1. INTRODUCTION
Allied Waste Industries, Inc. . (AWII) operates the Forward Landfill in Manteca,
California. AWII has contracted Shaw Environmental, Inc. (Shaw) to conduct semi-
annual sampling of asbestos concentrations at the Forward Landfill as required by
I Forward Landfill Solid Waste Facility Permit 39-AA-0015. The purpose of the sampling
was to get an estimate of the site-specific asbestos concentrations and to establish a
baseline concentration for future operations. The Air Monitoring Plan is included in
i
Appendix A.
Four representative sampling locations near the asbestos operations area were identified
assuming that the sample pool would demonstrate worst case scenario concentrations.
Three sampling stations were located predominantly downwind and approximately
150 feet from the asbestos area with a fourth station co-located with one of the downwind
stations. A fifth sampler was located predominantly upwind and approximately 75 feet
from the asbestos area. Air samples were collected simultaneously from each location
Jover an eight-hour period during normal working hours and normal operating conditions.
All sampling locations and the asbestos operations area can be viewed on Figures 1
and 2.
I
i
N:\Usm\John WeberTornsrd Landfill\Asbestos\Assbestos Report FhW.dm - Rev.0,10/7107
119185 1
