' Summary of Northern California Youth Center Sampling Results for July and August 2007
Forward Landfill-Austin Road Unit,California Page 2
The July 2007 field blank samples yielded no detectable concentrations of VOCs. The August 2007
' outdoor field blank sample yielded a detectable concentration of toluene, and the August 2007 indoor
field blank sample yielded detectable concentrations of toluene, bromoform, and
dibromochloromethane. Toluene was also detected in the trip blank sample for the August 2007
' sampling event, indicating that it is present due to laboratory contamination. Bromoform and
dibromochloromethane are commonly associated with chlorinated water. Based on previous site
evaluations, the facility chlorinates the water. The presence of bromoform and dibromochloromethane
in the indoor field blank sample are therefore assumed to be the result of the chlorination process. As
shown on the attached tables, the indoor faucet sample yielded detectable concentrations of bromoform
and dibromochloromethane, also presumably due to the chlorination process.
' Duplicate sample results for July and August were similar to the original sample results, indicating
good reproducibility.
Future monthly sample results will be used to verify that all VOCs in the indoor faucet remain below
their respective MCLS.
' Forward Landfill and the NCYC continue to pursue extending municipal water to the NCYC facility.
A design firm has been retained, and Forward Landfill is continuing to coordinate with the City of
Stockton.
Sincerely,
Herst&Associates,Inc.
Ward Herst,PG,HG David Vasbinder
Managing Director Staff Geologist
' California PG#7150
California HG#775
' Cc: Ross Atkinson—RWQCB
Robert McClellon—San Joaquin County LEA
Reuben Ramirez—Forward Landfill
' Lochlin Caffey—Forward Landfill
Attachment—Laboratory Analytical Results
1
t
