During the January and February 2007 inspections, the CEHD measured methane at
concentrations exceeding the regulatory limit of 5 percent in perimeter soil-pore gas probes
GP-11 and GP-12. However, during the March inspection only soil-pore gas probe GP-11
exceeded the regulatory limit, suggesting an improvement in landfill gas in the vicinity of probe
GP-12. Forward continues to install additional landfill gas extraction wells(as needed), and
makes regular adjustments to the landfill gas extraction system to optimize efficiency of the
landfill gas extraction system.
The retest results from the annual leachate sample confirm the presence of sulfide and
3-&-4-Methylphenol and both constituents have been added to the COCs list for the Forward
Landfill.
Groundwater quality conditions beneath the Austin Unit during the first quarter 2007 monitoring
period are generally similar tohistorical results. CLs were exceeded in DMP wells AMW-6,
AMW-7,AMW-13, and AMW-14. However, none of the CL exceedances exhibited statistically
significant increasing trends. In addition, several statistically significant decreasing VOC trends
were calculated in well AMW-14. In the CAP wells, trend analyses are performed instead of
comparison to CLs. During the current monitoring period, one or more statistically significant
increasing trends were noted for VOC constituents in wells AMW-1,AMW-10, and AMW-19,
while decreasing VOC trends were noted in CAP wells AMW-1 and AMW-1 1.
The retest results for the annual leachate sample confirmed the presence of mercury in the
leachate sample. Therefore, mercury has been added to the COC list for the Forward Landfill.
According to the Forward Landfill Operations Manager, weekly standard observations have been
conducted during the reporting quarter. The Forward Landfill Operations Manager also reported
that no surface water was discharged during the reporting period.
If you have any questions regarding this report, please call me at(858)451-1136.
Sincerely,
4
t
Will B. p z,PG, CHg
Project Geolo st
Attachment
C:\2007.004S\PORWARDLIRDOC
-2
Geologic Associates
