r
Geo -Logic
ASS O C 1 AT E S
Geologists, Hydrogeologists and Engineers
Forward Landfill
9999 South Austin Road
Manteca, CA 95336
Attention: Ms. Erin Fanning
May 22, 2012
JN: 2012-0025
RE: ASBESTOS MONITORING REPORT
FORWARD LANDFILL
FIRST HALF 2012 SEMIANNUAL REPORT
MANTECA, CALIFORNIA
INTRODUCTION
Geo -Logic Associates (GLA) presents this second semiannual asbestos monitoring report
for the Forward Landfill in San Joaquin County, California. Asbestos monitoring was
performed in accordance with the Forward Landfill Solid Waste Facility Permit No. 39 -
AA -0015. Del -Tech Geotechnical Support Services (Del -Tech) performed the asbestos
monitoring on May 4, 2012 in accordance with the Air Monitoring Plan provided in
Appendix A. Laboratory analyses were performed by Asbestos TEM Laboratories, Inc.
(ATEML) of Berkeley, California, a state certified laboratory. The analytical laboratory
report and field data is presented in Appendix B.
SAMPLING PROCEDURES
As shown on Figure 1, five representative sampling locations were identified near the
asbestos operations area. Four sampling stations were located predominately downwind
and one sampling station (Sample Station A) was located predominately upwind from the
asbestos disposal area. Upwind and downwind locations were chosen based on historical
site observations. Air samples were collected simultaneously from each location over an
eight-hour period during normal working hours and typical landfill operating conditions.
Each sampling station consisted of a sampling pump (with a built-in rotameter), filter
cassette, connective tubing, and mounting materials. Each filter used for air monitoring
consisted of a 25 millimeter diameter encased conductive cassette with a 0.45 -micron
mixed cellulose ester membrane. The pumps used for sampling were GilAir-5 constant
flow air sampling pumps with a flow capacity of 1 to 5 liters per minute (L/min). The
built-in rotameters on the GilAir-5 pumps were pre -tested (calibrated) using a dry
reference standard flow meter.
Sampling was conducted on May 4, 2012 and completed over an eight hour sampling
period. During the sampling period, Del -Tech personnel visually checked the sampling
pumps on an hourly basis for fluctuations in the flow rate. After sampling was
11415 West Bernardo Court, Suite 200, San Diego, California 92127 Phone: (858) 451-1136 FAX: (858) 451-1087
