Sampling Equipment
Interim gas sampling probes were used to monitor su cegases at the landfill
perimeter.
Each, probe consists of a S-fdot long, Winch diameter stainless steel pipe, with '/._ittciz holes
staggend every 2 inches at the bottom 1 g inches to allow for gases'to migrate into the probes. A
pointed tip was welded to the end of the probe for better penetration.
A ball valve and brass fitting were instaUed at the top of each probe to contain gas pressures and
facilitate instrument hook-up to the probe-The ves were left closed cxc t during urrtrg monitoring
or instr=ent reading. Each probe is tagged ' ' a brass plate and identified as "GP-I" through
A GA-90 Landtec Infra-red•Cras Analyzes was used to monitor methane, carbon.dioxide.(COQ,
and oxygen(07)levels at each probe location. The analyzer was calibrated for methane„COs,and
07 prior to use in the field_C:aiibration.logs are.included.in d is report.
Gas Monitoring
Ambien-r-air measur=,mts of methane, oxygen. carbon dioxide; and baromet;ic•pressure•were
taken at each gas probe Iocation. ?host dings were recorded and-the instmYncnt- was
connected to the probe_ 'The valve was opened and probe-gas pressurt
measurements were taken-
The
The probe was then. ed for. two. probe volumes. .R_ -were then collected at
7ci mately 30- to 60-second int ..a stable reading was .obtained-, These
Measurements of rnetM IC, oxygen, carbon diwddd, and ambient barometric presm=were then -
rccorded_ Monitoringwas also conducted at various locations in thrtc building sites for the
presence of Methane gas. Monitoring was conducted at the office trailer at the entrance to the
landfill, trailer boxes- at the service shop, •er b6ces at the transfer building. These
locations were monitored for any gas pockets at the foundation and near any opining from the
floor such as piping holes, electrical conduits,or foor cracks,
LYSWETERS
Lysime'te'rs were sampled using the following sta6dard protocol:
1.
