(i.e. Article 6 of 27 CCR). Drawing 13 of the JTD indicates the locations of the
perimeter gas monitoring probes for the combined landfill footprint.
2.2 GROUNDWATER
2.2.1 GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELLS
2.2.1.1 EXISTING GROUNDWATER MONITORING NETWORK
The groundwater monitoring network at the existing Forward and Austin Road
Landfills have been designed to provide early detection of a release from wastes to
groundwater. The monitoring systems currently installed were designed and
certified by a registered (geologist or civil) engineer. The boring logs were
prepared under the direction of a registered (geologist or civil) engineer and have
been submitted to the RWQCB.
At the existing Forward Landfill, the groundwater monitoring network currently
includes 19 groundwater wells, with 10 of the monitoring wells positioned in well
pairs (e.g., MW-1 A, MW-1 B) to accommodate fluctuating groundwater elevations
in the area. The groundwater monitoring wells were typically constructed to
depths between 70 and 110 feet. Seven of the monitoring wells are included in
the post-closure monitoring program that was implemented following closure of
WMU-A near the northeast corner of the facility. The remaining 12 wells are
included in the landfill's Detection Monitoring Program (Monitoring & Reporting
Program [M&RP] Order 97-141). The locations of the existing monitoring wells are
depicted on Figure 2. Table 3 lists the wells and identifies their current and
anticipated future uses.
The groundwater monitoring network at the existing Austin Road Landfill includes
13 groundwater monitoring wells that have been installed in accordance with the
facility's M&RP (Order 98-121) around the perimeter of the facility and within the
plume of impacted groundwater that extends north and northeast of the landfill.
The groundwater monitoring wells were typically constructed to depths between
80 and 100 feet. The locations of the existing monitoring wells are depicted on
Figure 2. Table 4 lists the wells and identifies their current and anticipated future
uses.
Forward Landfill PCPCMP 2-2
L:\Allied\2000.193\Reports\FinaIPCPCMP:FL-sec2.doc:5/21/02 BRYAN A.STIRRAT&ASSOCIATES
