2009 Asbestos Monitoring
Test date: October 1, 2009
3.0 Analysis and Results
Table 3-1 presents the asbestos test results. Asbestos was not detected at any of the sample
locations. Site activity included one load of asbestos dumped before the sampling period at
approximately 7:00 am. Figure 3-1 shows the asbestos sampling area within the entire landfill,
Figure 3-2 shows the sampling locations, with the average wind direction originating from the
Northwest. Detail of the sampling locations can be found in Appendix C. TEM Laboratories,
Inc. (ATEM) performed the laboratory analysis. Each sample was analyzed for asbestos by the
latest approved revision of NIOSH ASBESTOS by NIOSH Method 7402.
Using fiber dimensions reported in the ATEM report, the estimated fiber volume of asbestos is
0.3125 cubic micrometers per Fiber(µm3/Fiber). With this volume and a specific gravity of 3
for asbestos, the concentration can be converted to units of micrograms of asbestos per cubic
meter of air(µgAsb/m3Air) and is reported below in Table 3-1. See Appendix A for calculations of
the asbestos concentration).
Table 3-1
Summary of Asbestos Concentrations
Forward Landfill
Sampling Date: October 1, 2009
r it F 3 ,yea c
\ 04
x Q \ Fn
LCdt20 \ ` "u ✓a S r'k ra,..w,, .: ffU
777
 "
..:: ..<$ ,,1 f,. ...,,..,. ,...,irk'y ....
A (Upwind) 1.764 846.5 <0.0011 <0.0010
B (Downwind) 1.923 923.0 <0.001 I <0.0010
C (Downwind) 1.796 861.8 <0.001 I <0.0010
D (Downwind) 1.752 841.0 <0.0012 <0.001I
E (Downwind) 1.896 910.1 <0.0011 <0.0010
F (Downwind) 1.823 874.8 <0.001 I <0.0010
1 Sample Duplicate For Location D
Shaw Environmental,Inc. 3-1
