Leachate Ponj( Mlesjt
Leachate Collection and RecovenSystein (LCRS) Gas Test
near Ar. Litchfield:
On ALIgUSt 5, 20 11 '. VI[Ue Engineering conducted an f .('RS Gas '('est at the Leachate
Pond (West) tat Forward I.Andfill inWanteca, California. Attached with this letter are the
results of the test. The test conducted was a Pass indicating that all open-air conduit is
present across the LCRS ti :wit.
The test consists of injcctinga high concentration ot'sulfur hexa fluoride gas into the far
side of the LCRS system and allowing; the gas to migratte through flic unit to settle in the
low point of the LCRS stump. The non-toxic sulfur liexafluoride gicis is heavier than air
ttiatitiloi, vsittoi.tilgraLetothe lt)vvestpoint ofthe stamp. Once the gas has migrated
through the system, it can be extracted and detected from fie sump extraction pipe
hiclicating taint an open-air conduit is present through the unit. If excessive liquid is
backed tip into the drainzige layer of the LCRS, flic gas will not be able to migrate to the
sump. If as significant amount of liquid is in the LCRS unip, the liquid will block the
stamp extraction pipe ay.d no gas can be extracted or detected from Nit, system. Prior to
the test, your staff vas requested to pUtripall liquids from the I.,C*RS sump.
The LCRS gas test is a qualitative test turd determines if in open-air conduit exists
through the unit and if liquid present in the sump is blocking the sump extraction pipe. If
gas is extracted and detected, the test passes. if no gas is detected from the LCRS sump
the test fails. '[Iie test is conducted in bwo phases- the Gas Irijection please, and the Gas
Detection phase. All testing information was recorded on the attached LCRS Gas Testing
Form.
...... . ...
,www.valuenginee ri ngiis
