WMU D-88 A/B. Freeboard at WMU-F ranged from approximately 4.75 to 9.92 feet
during the first quarter 2012 monitoring period. Appendix A presents copies of the
leachate logs and the freeboard observation logs.
Leachate samples were collected on a monthly basis and analyzed in the field for pH,
specific conductance, and temperature. Results of monthly field monitoring
measurements for the first quarter 2012 are presented in Table 2-6.
2.1.7 Surface Water Monitoring
Site run-on and run-off control facilities are designed to effectively channel surface water
to site stormwater/sedimentation ponds. According to the Operations Manager, there
were no discharges to surface water during the reporting quarter. On February 2, 2012,
Del-Tech reported that both surface-water monitoring stations FSW-1 and FSW-2 were
dry.
2.2 SUMMARY
Groundwater quality conditions beneath the Forward Unit during the first quarter 2012
monitoring period are generally similar to those observed in previous monitoring periods.
During the first quarter 2012 monitoring period, DIPE was measured above its PQL in
the samples collected from wells MW-2A and M -16. In addition, one or more VOCs
were measured at estimated trace concentrations in the samples collected from wells
MW-14 and MW-18. CLs were exceeded for constituent concentrations in wells
MW-2A, MW-15, MW-16, MW-18, and MW-24. Excluding non-impact constituents and
low-level VOCs, confirmation sampling for strontium in well MW-18 will be performed
in May 2012 during the second quarter 2012 monitoring event, and in June 2012. The
results of the confirmation sampling will be provided under separate cover.
3.0 AUSTIN UNIT
3.1 WATER QUALITY MONITORING
3.1.1 Sampling and Laboratory Analyses
During the first quarter 2012, depth-to-water measurements were recorded and the Austin
Unit's DMP and CAP groundwater monitoring wells were sampled by Del-Tech on
February 22 and 24, 2012. Surface water stations ASW-1 and ASW-2 were reported dry
during the sampling event.
Samples were collected from each sample point with sufficient liquid and submitted to
BC for analysis of the parameters stipulated in RWQCB Order No. R5-2003-0049. Table
2-1 presents the monitoring schedule and summarizes the analytical methods utilized
during the current monitoring period. Water quality samples were also analyzed in the
field for ORP,turbidity, temperature, specific conductance, and pH and recorded on well
data sheets. The groundwater monitoring wells and leachate were sampled in accordance
C:\2012-0025\FA_1Q12.doc 7 Geo-Logic Associates
