parameters listed in Table 2-1. Results of monthly field monitoring measurements and
analytical results for the fourth quarter 2013 are presented in Table 2-6. As shown in
Table 2-6,two VOCs, 14 dissolved metals, and numerous inorganic constituents were
detected in the fourth quarter leachate sample. No semi-volatile organic compounds
(SVOCs),herbicides, or pesticides were detected. Review of the annual 2013 leachate
sample data indicates no new COCs were detected above PQLs, and therefore, no
verification retesting is required.
Surface Water Monitoring
Site run-on and run-off control facilities are designed to effectively channel surface water
to site stormwater/sedimentation ponds. According to the Operations Manager, there
were no discharges to surface water during the reporting quarter. Surface water
monitoring stations FSW-1 (downstream)and FSW-2 (upstream)were reported dry on
November 7, 2013 during the fourth quarter 2013 monitoring period. As a result, no
samples were collected.
2.2 SUMMARY
Groundwater quality conditions beneath the Forward Unit during the fourth quarter 2013
monitoring period are generally similar to those observed in previous monitoring periods.
During the fourth quarter 2013 monitoring period, only one VOC (DCDFM)was
measured at a trace concentration in the sample collected from well MW-10. For the
® inorganic monitoring parameters, CLs were exceeded for constituent concentrations in
wells MW-2A,MW-13,MW-14, MW-15 and background well MW-23R. Statistically
significant increasing temporal trends were identified for chloride concentrations in well
MW-2A, nitrate-N concentrations in well MW-14, and sulfate concentrations in well
MW-15. However, review of groundwater flow directions suggests that the increasing
trends for inorganic constituents may be related to changing conditions in background
associated with agricultural activities.
Surface water sampling locations were dry during the fourth quarter 2013 monitoring
period.
3.0 AUSTIN UNIT
3.1 WATER QUALITY MONITORING
Sampling and Laboratory Analyses
Fourth quarter 2013 monitoring included monitoring of routine monitoring locations as
well as offsite EMP wells. Depth-to-water measurements were recorded in the
groundwater monitoring wells on November 8, 2013. Groundwater, surface water, and
leachate sampling was performed on November 18 through 20, 2013 for routine
monitoring locations and on December 5 and 6, 2013 for the offsite EMP wells.
