Final Construction Quality Assurance Report —WMU FU -13
Forward Landfill
passing the #200 sieve.
Hydraulic conductivity testing of the granular drainage material indicated an average flow rate
greater than 3-5 cm/sec, which exceeds the requirement of 0.1 cm/sec. Hydraulic conductivity
testing of the coarse gravel drainage material indicated an average flow rate greater than 10.0
cm/sec, which exceeds the requirement of 1 cm/sec. The laboratory test results of the granular
drainage material and coarse gravel testing are included in Appendix F and Appendix G,
respectively.
4.6 PROTECTIVE OPERATIONS LAYER
Upon completion and approval of the LCRS granular drainage layer and deployment of 8 oz/yd2
filter geotextile (discussed in detail in Section 5), a one -foot thick lift of protective operations
layer soils was placed on the floor, and also pushed 10' up the 2:1 slope of WMU FU -13.
•
The protective operations layer soils were placed by scrapers by spreading the on-site moisture
conditioned soil in a minimum 12 -inch continuous loose lift over the filter geotextile and LCRS
gravel drainage (material using a GPS controlled D6 CAT dozer). GLA's CQA Monitor observed
the Contractor's activities during placement of the operations layer soils to minimize the •
potential for damage to the underlying geosynthetics.
4.7 ANCHOR TRENCHES AND TERMINATION BERMS
Prior to commencement of geomembrane deployment, GLA's CQA Monitor observed that the
anchor trenches were constructed according to the details in the Plans and Specifications, and
were free of loose soil or deleterious material. After completion of geosynthetics deployment,
GLA's CQA Monitor observed and documented that the backfill for the anchor trenches was
placed and compacted in accordance with the Specifications, and that no damage occurred to
the geosynthetics material during backfill operations. GLA's CQA Monitor performed two (2)
tests (CL82-83) in the clay plug anchor trench backfill for the geosynthetics deployed on the 4:1
slope. Documentation of the anchor trench backfill compaction test is included with the tests
performed on the low permeable clay liner soils in Appendix D.
Termination berms were constructed along the south and east sides of FU -13 to prevent
surface water run-on into the module. Construction of the temporary termination berms was
observed by GLA's CQA Monitor to ensure that the Contractor was placing and compacting
moisture conditioned soils in such a manner as to produce a firm and unyielding condition. •
These termination berms were constructed using on-site soils.
16 Geo -Logic
ASSOCIATES
