® As shown in the table above, significant increasing trends were calculated for three VOC
constituents in CAP well AMW-1, while decreasing VOC trends were noted for several
VOCs in CAP wells AMW-1, AMW-4, AMW-10, and AMW-19BR. The increasing
trend exhibited for cis-1,2-DCE at well AMW-1, and generally decreasing(organic and
inorganic) trends noted in all of the CAP wells, suggests that corrective action measures
have been successful in reducing facility related groundwater impacts downgradient of
the Austin Unit.
Domestic Well Monitoring
Two domestic wells (7898-A and 8106-A)were sampled on June 18, 2013. Table 3-3
summarizes the current analytical results for the domestic well samples collected. PCE
was measured above the PQL in the samples from both domestic wells and DCDFM and
TCE were measured above the PQL in the sample collected from well 8106-A.
Estimated-trace concentrations of two VOCs were also measured in the samples collected
from wells 7898-A and 8106-A.
Surface Water Monitoring
Site run-on and run-off control facilities are designed to effectively channel surface water
to site stormwater/sedimentation ponds. According to the Operations Manager, there
were no discharges to surface water during the reporting quarter. Samples were collected
® from surface water monitoring stations ASW-1 (upstream) and ASW-2 (downstream) on
June 18, 2013 for the second quarter 2013 monitoring period. Table 3-5 summarizes the
current analytical results of surface water samples collected at the Austin Unit. As shown
on Table 3-5, no VOCs were detected in either sample. Analytical results for the surface
water samples are generally similar, suggesting that landfill operations are not impacting
surface water quality.
Leachate Monitoring
According to the Operations Manager, no leachate was taken off site during the second
quarter 2013. The leachate collection system, which collects leachate from the north face
of the landfill, has been operational since November 1996. WQPS (concentration limits)
are not required for leachate because it is collected and removed for disposal, rather than
discharged. According to the Operations Manager, the LCRS operated effectively during
the second quarter 2013.
Leachate samples were collected on a monthly basis and analyzed in the field for pH,
specific conductance, and temperature. The results of monthly field monitoring
measurements are presented in Table 3-6. In addition, the semi-VOC (2-methylphenol)
was detected for the first time during the annual leachate sampling event(fourth quarter
2012). Therefore, in accordance with Order No. 5-2003-0049, a confirmation (retest)
sample was collected during the second quarter 2013 on June 18, 2013. As summarized
in Table 3-6, 2-methylphenol was confirmed in the retest sample.
C:U013-0021TA_2Q13.doe 11 Geo-Logic Associates
