1-1
Water Quality Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill
(PQL), with CAP well AMW-1 having the greatest number of VOCs (11) including nine
measured above a PQL. An annual report discussing the CAP and EMP monitoring
results for the Austin Unit was prepared by Herst & Associates (Herst, 2014) and
reported under separate cover.
3.1.6 Cannery Waste Land Application Monitoring
Field and laboratory results for CWLAM wells for the fourth quarter 2014 monitoring
period are summarized in Table 3-4. However, water quality standards for the CWLAM
program have not been established, due to insufficient background data. On July 21,
2014, Geo -Logic Associates submitted a letter to the RWQCB requesting an extension of
the Cannery Waste Water Quality Protection Standards Report until May 1, 2016 when
sufficient data (eight quarters of data) have been collected.
3.1.7 Domestic Well Monitoring
Two domestic wells (7898-A and 8106-A) were sampled on November 17, 2014. Table
3-5 summarizes the current analytical results for the domestic well samples collected.
Tetrachloroethene was measured above the PQL in both domestic well samples and
DCDFM and TCE were also measured above their PQLs in the sample collected from well
8106-A. Estimated trace concentrations of two VOCs were also measured in the
samples from each domestic well.
3.1.8 Vadose Zone Monitoring
The current vadose-zone monitoring network at the Austin Unit consists of seven
lysimeters. The lysimeter locations are shown on Figure 3-1. As shown on Table 2-5A,
with the exception of FU -04W all of the lysimeters were reported dry. However, there
was insufficient soil pore liquid (7 milliliters) collected from FU -04W for analysis.
3.1.9 Leachate/Surface Impoundment Monitoring
For the Austin Unit, leachate sumps and surface impoundments are inspected weekly by
Forward Landfill personnel. If leachate is detected in a sump, it is pumped into the
surface impoundment WMU F (West) for evaporation. During the fourth quarter 2014,
leachate was observed at holding areas WMU FU -03, WMU FU -04, WMU FU -05, WMU
FU -06, WMU FU -10, WMU FU -13, and WMU FU -14 and a total of 121,750 gallons of
leachate was removed from the lined areas at an average rate of 1,338 gallons per day.
For surface impoundment WMU-F (West) Freeboard ranged from approximately 5.42 to
6.17 feet during the fourth quarter 2014 monitoring period. Appendix A presents copies
of the leachate observation logs, freeboard observation logs, and dissolved oxygen
measurements.
M:\ 2014.0012\FA_4Q14.docx 12
1/28/2015, Rev. 0
